Housekeeping: 6 tips from the pros for the pros

28.08.2023

from Sandra

A good housekeeping team is the be-all and end-all of a good hotel. Professionals and long-standing housekeeping staff probably know all the tricks of the trade when it comes to a brilliant appearance. But for all novice housekeepers, we have done some research and put together a few important tricks and things to look out for.

Cleaning plan

A cleaning plan that you can work through strategically will make things much easier. The best way to start your hotel cleaning plan is to remove all the sheets in the room - they collect a lot of dust and you don't want it flying around in a clean room.

Hierarchy

Always clean the room from top to bottom. This saves you from having to clean twice - because dust also listens to gravity and falls downwards.

Light management

A good tip is to always clean the light bulbs in the room. This gives the whole room better light and makes it look more glamorous, warmer and friendlier.

Explosive

Important: Never mix chemicals! You never know exactly how they will react with each other. The risk of damaging furniture or injuring yourself is simply too great.

Utensils

Take care of your tools - in this case: the cleaning utensils! Clean them at the end of each cleaning day to keep them in good working order for a long time.

Draught

Always open the window while you are cleaning. This allows odors that arise during cleaning to dissipate immediately and you also have better light for cleaning, because you can see the dirt better in daylight than in electric light.

In general, it is important in housekeeping to work in a perfectionist, strategic and meticulous manner. Because good housekeeping can turn guests into regulars.
