Are you new to the professional world and want to gain a foothold quickly and take the first few rungs of the career ladder at once? We've put together a few tips to help you do just that:

1.) Voluntary activities

Volunteering helps you to get your career rolling. Depending on the activity, you may have learned to organize or work with others during this volunteer time. These are qualities that HR managers value highly and that will help you get ahead quickly in your job.

2.) Stay abroad

A stay abroad doesn't just bring great photos and adventures. Anyone who has been abroad already has a better feel for other people and other cultures. Anyone who has spent time away from home has become familiar with other structures and ways of life during this time. This signals a certain degree of flexibility to recruiters. And flexibility is worth its weight in gold, especially in the hospitality industry.

3.) Set clear goals

Set yourself goals that you want to achieve before you start your career. Maybe even write them down so that you always have them in mind. That way you know what you're working towards.

4.) Questioning

Before you set off to achieve your goals, pause for a moment. Think about what your career is worth to you. Are you willing to sacrifice all your time? Where do you draw the line? How much do you want to invest in your career planning?
You should definitely have answers to these questions before you start your career.

5.) Know strengths and weaknesses

Get to know yourself. What are your strengths and what qualities do you still need to hone a little? Soft skills are particularly important in the hospitality industry. You can get help from professional coaches to learn, improve and automate these skills. Coaching teaches you to see your weaknesses as challenges. With targeted training, you can overcome them.

6.) Further training

When you continue your education, you not only learn professionally, but also personally. In the course of further training, you have to deal with a wide variety of people and learn how to deal with different characters.

7.) Do not sell below value

Be aware of your value. Stand by yourself and your skills. You contribute yourself and your know-how to the company. That has its value. You can also demand it. This shows self-confidence and steadfastness. Two qualities that HR managers value highly.
